History of the breed Schleswig Schnauzer

This breed originated in the 19th century in the Schleswig-Holstein region. Its ancestors were Jute horses that interbred with Danish Warmbloods, Yorkshire Carriage Horses and English Thoroughbreds. Since the mid-20th century, selective breeding has begun using the Suffolk stallion Oppenheim LXII. Later they were also bred with Boulogne and Breton cold blooded horses. He gained great popularity and even pulled trams and buses in German cities. Today, however, it is on the verge of extinction, with only about 10 purebred stallions registered.
