History of the breed Rocky Mountain

The breed originated in the early 20th century and its ancestor was the stallion Old Tobe, which belonged to a man named Sam Tuttle. Old Tobe had an excellent temperament and therefore admitted a large number of mares. His offspring inherited both a gentle temperament and an attractive conformation. The result was a breed with a comfortable gait capable of covering great distances.

Physique of the Rocky Mountain breed

The head is of Spanish type, the neck is slightly arched. The chest is deep, the back, shorter and straight. The rump is sloping with a high set tail. The limbs are firm and strong with unexpressive joints and good hoof quality. Coat is usually liver, but may be any colour except speckled. At withers they measure 145-160 cm.

The Rocky Mountain is an excellent riding horse in mountainous or difficult terrain. It is a popular recreational and touring horse and is also suitable for novice riders.
