Name: Rhineland cold blooded
Origin: Germany
Height: 160 - 170 cm
Color: Brownish, Ryzak
Category: Rhineland cold blooded

History of the breed Rhine Cold Blooded

The breed originated in the 19th century in Germany. Its ancestors are the Belgian, Ardennes, Clydesdales, Boulogne Coldbloods and Percherons. Almost immediately it became very popular and spread throughout the country. Many different lines and many different names have been coined, which is why, for example, the German Coldblood, the Rhenish-Belgian Lower Saxon Draught Horse or the Rhenish-Westphalian Coldblood denote one and the same breed. However, mechanisation has displaced these horses and they are now very rare.

Physique of the Rhineland Coldblood

The head is smaller, the neck is strong, arched, with a pronounced crest. The chest is deep, the back short, firm and straight, the rump powerfully muscular and sloping. The limbs are shorter, strong with short rows and hard hooves. The coat is brown or pure, and they grow to 160-170 cm at the withers.

Use of the Rhineland Cold Blooded

Formerly a very popular draught horse, it has no use today like most cold-blooded horses. Its numbers have declined greatly and the Rhineland Coldblood is on the verge of extinction.

The nature of the Rhineland Coldblood breed

The Rhineland Coldblood is a strong, hardy and tough horse. It is obedient, well controlled with a pleasant temperament.
