History of the breed Norik

The Norik originates from the Austrian Alps and its history dates back to the Romans. In the Middle Ages they were popular war horses. Its ancestors were Spanish, Neapolitan and Burgundian horses. Then the Noricum was used in agriculture and in the 18th century it was crossed with warmbloods. This made excellent horses for the army. The Noricum is still bred in its unchanged form today.

Physique of the Norik breed

The head is heavier, the neck is short and muscular. The shoulders are strong, the shoulder blades sloping. The chest is deep and arched. The back is straight and strong, the rump muscular with a low-set tail. The limbs are firm, dry with rousses. The coat is usually pure or spotted, but may be brownish. At the withers it measures 155-170 cm.

Use of the Norik breed

The Norik was bred as a working breed in agriculture and later used by the military. Today, the Norik is used in draft and as a reliable riding horse.

Character of the Norik breed

The Norik is a good-natured, calm and obedient cold-blooded horse. It is hardworking and strong. It is also hardy and unpretentious.
