History of the breed Merino Horse

This breed is also known as the Ariège horse. It originates from the mountains of France. The Mehren horse is a very old breed, probably descended from the original wild horses. Later it was influenced by the oriental blood of Arabian and Berber horses. At the beginning of the 20th century, targeted breeding of the originally feral horses began and a stud book was established in 1948.

Physique of the Merensky horse breed

The head is pleasing, the ears are small, the gills are rich and wavy. The neck is short. The build is strong, the chest deep, the back long and muscular, the rump sloping and the tail low set. The limbs are short, strong, the hooves hard and of good quality, so that they do not need to be shod. The coat is exclusively black, 132-148 cm at withers.

Use of the Merino horse breed

The Merino Horse is used as a working breed for places where a tractor cannot reach, they are good soumars and are a more popular riding horse for children and adults. Their gaits are comfortable and they don't tire easily.

The nature of the Merensky breed

These horses are incredibly hardy, agile and move with complete confidence in mountainous terrain. They have a kind, friendly disposition and are suitable as recreational horses as well as riding ponies for children.
