History of the Irish Draught Horse

Despite its name, the Irish Draught Horse is now a slightly more robust warm-blooded breed. Originally, however, it was a smaller horse with a heavier frame. Its ancestors were probably Flanders horses, Andalusians and Connemaras. Later, it was crossed with the Clydesdale and the English Thoroughbred, which gave the breed a lighter frame.

Physique of the Irish Draught Horse

The head is attractive, the neck is muscular. The back is straight, the rump muscular. The limbs are strong with good joints and good hooves. The coat can be white, brown or pure, at the withers it measures 157-170 cm.

Use of the Irish Draught Horse

The Irish Draught Horse is a versatile animal for draft and riding. It does not have a good use in sport. It is more of a popular recreational horse. However, it can still be seen today working on the farm.
