History of the breed Holstein Warmblood

The origin of the breed dates back to the 13th century, when German, Spanish and Arabian horses interbred. At this time, they were horses of more robust build, suitable for agricultural work and military riding. In the 17th century, they were popular carriage horses. One of the white stallions of the time, Mignon, was the founder of a line of white Holsteins that were also used by the English court until the last century. In the 19th century, they were bred with English Thoroughbreds and Yorkshire carriage horses, which lightened the body conformation and created versatile riding horses.

Physique of the Holstein Warmblood

The head is of the thoroughbred type, the neck slightly arched. The chest is deep, the shoulder blades allow smooth movement. The back is longer with a muscular rump. The limbs are shorter, firm and dry with good hooves. Coat is mostly brown, but can also be white, brindle and raven. They grow to an average of 160-170 cm at the withers.

Use of the Holstein Warmblood

Holsteins are very good sport horses that have made a name for themselves in show jumping. They are also used in dressage and less in military.
