History of the Gidran breed

The origin of the breed dates back to the 19th century in the stud farm Mezöhegyes. The first was the Arabian stallion Siglavy Gidran, who came from the important Siglavy line. Together with the Spanish mare Arrogante they produced the stallion Gidran II, who became the founder of the Gidran breed. Thoroughbreds, Spanish horses were also used and as a result the breed became established in two lines. A lighter type as a riding horse for the army and a heavier type for light work in agriculture. During the First World War, animal numbers decreased. Therefore, the Arabian Thoroughbreds were used again and the Gidran took on its present form.

Physique of the Gidran breed

They are more powerful horses with a fine head with an Arabian expression. The neck is muscular and the shoulder blades allow smooth movement. The chest is deep, the back long and the rump muscular. The limbs are strong with quality hooves. The coat is exclusively pure, there may be white markings. At the withers they grow 160 - 165 cm.

Use of the Gidran breed

The Gidran is an excellent sport horse. It can also be used in light tack as a carriage horse or for recreational or tourist riding.

Character of the Gidran breed

Gidrans inherited the character from their Arabian ancestors, They are fiery, hard to handle and persistent. They are also strong, teachable and courageous.
