History of the Falabella breed

Originated in the 19th century in Argentina. It owes its name to the Falabella family, who tried to breed a miniature horse. Shetland ponies were used, which were crossed with a herd of small horses. Then English thoroughbreds and criollos were used. To maintain height, the smallest falabella horses were inbred with each other.

Physique of the Falabella breed

The head is large, the neck muscular, the body powerful. The limbs are small, well muscled. The gills are thick. The coat may be any colour, the height at withers must not exceed 90 cm.

Use of the Falabella breed

Falabellas can be used for light draft and were formerly ridden by small children. Today, however, it is more of an ornamental pony and a pet.

The nature of the Falabella breed

They are intelligent ponies, friendly, sweet natured. They are willing, teachable and good to handle.
