History of the English Thoroughbred breed

A1/1 were bred specifically for horse racing in the early 17th century. The origin of this breed is attributed to three horses: the first was the Byerley Turk, probably an achal-teke. His son Jig and grandson Herod are the founders of a great line of racehorses. The second horse was the Darley Arabian and was probably the most important for the creation of the A1/1. He gave several first-class horses, founders of lines. Third was Godolphin Barb. Originating probably from Morocco. This is how the three most important lines in English thoroughbred breeding were created.

Body structure of the English Thoroughbred breed

The head is delicate with a straight profile, the neck is elegantly curved. The shoulder blades are oblique, the back is short and strong. The rump is slightly sloping and muscular. The limbs are firm, without wrinkles, the joints are strong. The hind legs are long, muscular, the hock is strong. The front ones are softer, the joints are flat. The structure of the body is athletic, adapted to fast running. The fur has a silky sheen. Colors can be white, brown, pure, black, rarely palomino. It grows to a height of 155 to 168 cm at the withers.

Use of the English thoroughbred breed

The original use is for horse racing, for which the A1/1 are still bred today. Furthermore, thanks to their combativeness, they are also great for military competitions, they have proven themselves in showjumping and hunting. He also participates in the breeding of other breeds. Among other things, Czech warmbloods and Kinsky horses have his blood.

Nature of the breed English thoroughbred

The nature of these horses is difficult, fearful with disproportionate reactions. They like to run fast, but they don't like to stop. They are nervous and headstrong. They need experienced riders who can handle them. For horse racing, this nature is indispensable.
