History of the breed Danish Warmblood

A relatively new but successful sporting breed. The breed originates from the stud farm in Frederiksborg, where the Holstein and Frederiksborg horses originated. It was developed through careful selective breeding using many different breeds of horses. The studbook was established in the 1960s. Unlike most other warmbloods, the Danish horse did not use a Hanoverian warmblood. All members of this breed must undergo special 100 day tests before they are allowed to breed, thus maintaining the high standard of the breed.

The head is fine, the neck muscular. The chest is deep, the shoulder blade sloping. The back is compact and strong, the rump round and the tail low set. The limbs are firm and dry. The coat is usually brown, but may also be white, brindle and raven. They grow to an average height of 165 cm at the withers.

The Danish Warmblood is a typical sport horse with great aptitude for dressage and parkour, where it achieves considerable success. However, they are also good recreational and representative horses.
