History of the Dales pony breed

It is similar to the Fell pony and also shares the same ancestry. The Dales pony is an old breed that descends from the Old Frisian horse. He then interbred with a large number of other breeds from which he gained his strength and endurance. It was used to carry ore from mines in the Northumberland and Durham area as well as in agriculture. Later he was also crossed with Welsh horses, specifically with the stallion Comet.
