History of the Connemara breed

The Connemara is a very old breed from the Connaught area. His ancestors were the original Celtic ponies. They were crossed with old Spanish Jennetas, Arabian thoroughbreds and Berber horses. Later also with English thoroughbreds, hackneys and Welsh ponies. Notable stallions in the stud were the Welsh Cannon, Carna dun, the Irish draft horse Mayboy, the Arabian Clonkeehan Auratum and the Welsh Dynamite. Despite these diverse breeds, a stable type was maintained and one of the best pony breeds in the world was created.

Connemaras are lovable ponies with a soft head and arched neck. The shoulder blades enable a long step, the shoulders are well built. The back is longer, the back is strong and muscular.
