History of the Bosnian pony breed

It comes from the territory of the former Yugoslavia and has many features in common with Hucula and Konik. It was probably created by crossing a tarpan and a Przewalski's horse. Later, the Turks crossed it with Arabian thoroughbreds, but by doing so the Bosnian pony lost many of its useful properties. Therefore, tarpans were re-introduced into breeding and the breed was restored. Selective breeding has been carried out since the 20th century.

At first glance, they bear the signs of primitive horses. The head is heavy with a straight profile, the ears are small. The neck is short and muscular, the back is straight, the back is bent with a low-set tail. Limbs are dry, firm, hooves of very good quality. The coat can be any color except magpie, the height at the withers is 130 - 145 cm.

Thanks to selective breeding, these animals are of high quality and can be used in agriculture for tillage and as draft horses in hard-to-reach terrains. They make good pack horses as well as riding horses.
