History of the Belgian Warmblood breed

The Belgian Warmblood is a new breed that was bred primarily for sporting purposes. His ancestors were Gelderland horses that were crossed with lighter horses. This resulted in a pleasing but heavier horse unsuitable for competitions. Therefore, Holstein, Hanoverian and French riding horses were used, thanks to which the Belgian warmblood got a lighter frame. Later, they crossed with English thoroughbreds, Anglo-Arabs and Dutch warmbloods, and thus the modern sporting Belgian warmblood was born.

Body structure of the Belgian Warmblood breed

The head is attractive with large eyes. The neck is muscular, the chest is broad and the shoulder blades allow for smooth movement. The back is short, compact, the back is muscular, the tail is set high. The limbs are strong, the hooves hard. The fur is mostly brown, but there can also be whites, reds and crows. They grow to an average of 165 cm at the withers.
