History of the Basuto pony breed

The most famous pony breed in Africa. In the 19th century, they were used as war horses. Their origin is unclear, they are probably descendants of imported horses such as the Arabian thoroughbred, Persian horse, Java pony and others. Later, these horses lost their size and nobility by crossing with local ponies. On the contrary, they adapted to the rocky terrain and gained a certain gait here.
