History of the Australian Cattle Horse breed

These horses are descendants of the first horses brought to Australia by Governor Arthur Phillip. They were gradually crossed with English and Arabian thoroughbreds, and thus the Waler horses were created. They were high-quality military and working horses used even during the First World War. Crossing with the Quarter Horse created the Australian Cattle Horse breed.

Body structure of the Australian Cattle Horse breed

Their body structure is similar to the English thoroughbred, but they are somewhat more massive. The head is soft, attractive, the eyes are large and kind. The neck is well set. The chest is deep, the back is longer and muscular. Limbs are strong with quality hooves. They are mostly browns, there may also be whites, reds or crows. It measures 145 - 165 cm at the withers.

The Austal cattle horse is a universal breed showing the characteristics of all its ancestors. They are excellent working horses, they are also used for tourism and recreational riding.
