This is a strong and well-built dog of rectangular size with a deep chest, straight back and a sloping rear. The head is wedge-shaped and the skull is as long as the nose. The ears are medium sized, high set and erect. The legs are straight and muscular. The tail is of medium length and low set, and is carried drooping and sabre-like when at rest and slightly raised when excited.

This is a lively, intelligent, courageous, reliable, obedient and loyal dog that is tolerant of children and pets. However, it needs good training and plenty of exercise, otherwise it can become vicious and difficult to handle.
